I suppose I believed this too. No one explicitly taught me this, but somewhere along the way I picked up these assumptions. Yet neither is a biblical definition of faith—and both are a surefire setup for a spiritual crisis. One day in class the pastor admitted that in any given moment, he was only 60 to 80 percent certain about Christianity. At first I didn’t believe him.
